Description Onde-onde is a popular bazaar snack in Indonesia. Onde-onde is made of either wheat or cooked or boiled rice and is sprinkled with sesame seeds. Although Onde-Onde has existed since the time of the Majapahit, Onde-onde is not a native from Indonesia. Onde-onde came from China and invented during the Zhou Dynasty. The Onde-Onde was prepared to be presented to the carpenters and masons who were then building imperial palaces. This cake represents both safety and togetherness. During the Tang Dynasty, a writer named Wang Fanzhi wrote that Onde-Onde was one of the specialties of the Chang 'an imperial court as Ludeui. Onde-Onde was first carried by the Chinese merchant to the Archipelago in 1300 to 1500 C.E. by Admiral Cheng Ho of the Ming dynasty. Onde-onde originally contained only brown sugar paste and was sweet. But in Indonesia itself the Onde-Onde was modified with an addition of green beans, so it had a slightly savory taste and matched Indonesian taste. Furthermore, in modern times, there are now a small size Onde-Onde, called Mini Onde-Onde. Song Credit: DJ Gamelan Jawa
